Aerobatic flight is flight that explores all dimensions of the air and and the limits of performance of an airplane. The air is a three-dimensional environment and aerobatic flight explores the vertical as well as horizontal flight paths through the air. Suitable constructed airplanes can spin, tumble, slide, roll, loop, and fly through a wide range of airspeeds. Aerobatic pilots simply enjoy the challenge, and the beauty of flying their airplanes through the full range of maneuvers of which they are capable.
We are an active group of aviation enthusiasts from Minnesota with some members in Iowa, Wisconsin, and North & South Dakota. We are all about friends, family, and fun. Chapter 78's chief objective is to promote safer flying skills through aerobatic flight.
Chapter 78 administers the Douglas Yost Aerobatic Scholarship. It is presented annually from an endowment established in memory of Douglas Yost by the Yost family. The purpose of this scholarship grant is to promote air safety through aerobatics training.
Chapter 78 has sponsored the Doug Yost Challenge Aerobatic Competition for more than 16 years. The annual contest draws competition pilots from all over the Midwest and across the nation and will be held this year in Spencer, Iowa. This is a unique opportunity to see aerobatic competition pilots and planes.

The Douglas Yost Memorial Aerobatic Scholarship Grant is administered by Chapter 78 of the International Aerobatic Club (IAC), a division of the Experimental Aviation Association (EAA). The Scholarship Grant is awarded annually from an endowment established in memory of pilot Douglas Yost by his family in 2002. The scholarship Fund also has continuing sponsorship from Link Snacks, Inc., makers of Jack Links Beef Jerky.
