Doug Yost Challenge a smashing success!! Thanks to all pilots who attended and special thanks to Jack Links Beef Jerky |

35 pilots enjoyed the blue skies, temps in the
low 80's, low humidity, and light and variable winds that prevailed for the
entire week-end of the 2nd annual Doug Yost Challenge held in Rice Lake,
Wisconsin. The hard work and efforts by contest director Ann Nelson combined
with the funds and support of contest sponsor, Jack Links Beef Jerky, made this
contest really enjoyable. We pilots had the luxury of 4 courtesy mini-vans to
shuttle people back and forth to hotels and lodges on area lakes. Hangar space
was provided at no charge by the sponsor. It is significant to note that we had
7 first time Primary competitors and 4 first time Sportsman pilots. To me, this
is what the grass roots effort is all about! We had a contingent of 7 pilots
come in from the University of North Dakota flight program and fly competition
for the first time. They all shared the school's new Decathlon and are planning
on participating in the Eagle Collegiate Championship Program!
Kim Beer took on the task of running the scoring computer and despite
some glitches with the computer's printer, did and outstanding job once again.
Lastly, Jack Links gets a great big Thank you from our Chapter, as their
support for the contest made it possible!
Nice job to all the volunteers!
