My Aerobatic Training Experience by Max Kahlhamer

Thank you so very much for the wonderful opportunity this awesome scholarship gave me. I am very happy that I could take advantage of such a great thing as an aerobatic course.

In our ground school, we were challenged to think about the aerodynamics of each maneuver that we had done, and also how each maneuver could flow from one into the other. It was quite exciting to see the transition of a few people who had little to no background in aerobatics, to somewhat-connoisseurs of the intricacies of the sport. I enjoyed learning about the aircraft, rules, and maneuvers. The best part of course was practicing what we had learned. The end of the course culminated with a routine that we had to design ourselves. It was a joy to string together so many artistic forms, and make it all happen in our Super Decathlon.

I still carry my routine around in my logbook, just incase any body asks if the aerobatics course is worth taking. I pull it out and explain all the maneuvers you can do, and all the fun that I had in the course. Needless to say, many students have become VERY interested in learning more.

As a result from this course and scholarship, I have come to learn a lot more about the aerodynamics of aerobatics, and unusual attitudes, especially spins. In fact just today in a briefing with an instrument student, I was able to explain to him the intricacies of a spin, and the differences of each part. Having spent time in spins, both in routines, and practice, I could explain to a greater detail than had I not taken the course. That alone is reason to be grateful.

I really appreciate the opportunity to have fun, and learn at the same time. Without the sponsorship of your scholarship, I would not have been able to do that. Thanks so much!!!
